Potion Necromancy

Promotional Showreel
Introduction
For Studio Project 3, we were required to pick between a few briefs, and the one I chose was Singapoliday. The issue was that with COVID-19, domestic tourism has seen a significant dip, and with the Singapoliday campaign, its aim was to get Singaporeans to the off shore islands of Singapore. While islands like Sentosa, Pulau Ubin and Coney Island were known to many, there were numerous other islands that have unfortunately went unheard of by many locals despite their rich some even bittersweet history. As for this project, I chose to focus more on islands that had more mythological tales, such as Pulau Hantu, Sisters' Islands and Kusu Island, so that some original narratives could be tied in to enhance their flavour and intrigue.

Why "Potion Necromancy"? Initially the idea was as simple as the thought of "Rotten Potions". I thought it would be interesting to provide a fresh narrative to existing islands to appeal to thrill seekers and those that yearn for a little adventure. Add the fact that Necromancy entails the practice of magic involving the dead, "Potion Necromancy" became its official title.

Featuring The Reaper, an important character in the app that also acts as a guide, tying in to your role as her Apprentice. While there are 3 variations of her illustrations, they all serve the same purpose - of providing a new perspective on the islands of Singapore, in turn invoking the curiosity of onlookers. And for advertisement, of course!
So what exactly is this whole potion crafting jazz about?
The Potion Necromancy app is the main deliverable in this project. The app functions as an AR (Augmented Reality) app that has one scanning real life fauna and creatures in order to obtain The Undead (the rotten species that you see above), and in turn these Undead are to be ingredients used in potion crafting. Hence the phrase, "Potions of the Dead". Think Pokemon Go, but instead of becoming all buddy with these guys, you throw them in a cauldron and boil them alive.

There's also the Persona/Arcana function that basically acts as a personality gauge for you, determining the potion sets you're assigned with. As for The Reaper, she's a rather sarcastic, cynical and mildly unfriendly witch that has been concocting these potions and was the one who created the recipes, and for efficiency, she has you do the collecting instead while she just enjoys whatever effects the ominous potions provide her. She also acts as a tutorial guide and conversationalist for better navigation and interaction.

Potion Necromancy Brochure
Contains historically accurate information of included islands, the magic sigils to be drawn in the app to cast spells and obtain rarer Undead, as well as a brief explanation of the functionalities of the app itself.

Potion Necromancy Card Pack
The cards serve as trivia and provide the user detailed information about The Undeads' origins as well as clues as to where to locate them. The tarot cards are also included in the deck.

As for the packaging, the contents of the card folder includes information on spellcasting and magic sigils, and the numerous advantages that players can have just by simply owning the card pack and gaining access to all this information.

The string was also intentionally shaped like a noose to add to its aesthetic and overall mood of the project.

The card pack was planned to be purchased on the Potion Necromancy website.
